Lets Start with a tribute to a Friend lost this paper fit the mood of the design. It is so inviting to work with and made the perfect back drop for my photos.

Member Spotlight - Lisa Harris

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your family. I've been married to the same great guy for almost 20 years. In fact, we will celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary in June on a cruise ship. I am so excited! First vacation without kids since - ever! I am mom to Ethan, 17, who is a graduating senior this year. He will attend college in the fall majoring in accounting. Also mom to Adam, 14, who will be entering high school next year. Being the only girl in a house full of men definitely influences my scrapbooking. I don't get many opportunities to use pink, frills, and bows. 2. How and when did you start scrap booking? I think it was around 9 years ago. Before I started, I swore I'd never get into it, because I could see me getting hooked and spending tons of money on paper. Which I thought was stupid. That was then - this is now! 3. How would you describe your scrap booking style? My style is definitely very clean and classic. Very linear. I'm probably the only scrapper I know who actually measures everything. I even have a grid ruler that measures down to the nearest quarter-inch.

4. How often do you journal? Is it important to you? I'll admit that journaling is definitely not my strong point. The funny thing is, it truly IS important to me! I believe very deeply in capturing the story behind the photos. Just seems that I almost always procrastinate that step in the creative process. 5. Do you have a dedicated scrap space ( room )? YES! I am so blessed to have my own little nook! What does it look like right now? In a word? MESSY! My room does triple duty - it's my home office, my crop store, and my creative space. That means there is a lot of "stuff" in there. My goal is to get it uber-organized this summer.

6. What are your "go to " tools or supplies when you scrap? I love to use inks, whether for distressing or for stamping. My Crop-a-dile is always within arm's reach, along with my Glue Glider Pro, and, lately, my Threading Water punch. All great tools. 7. Where do you start when you get ready to create- sketches, supplies, photos...? I am such a fan of sketches! I just can't get enough of them. Using sketches allows me to get the heavy stuff out of the way - the layout of the page - and focus on the fun stuff - the techniques. 8. Are you a scrapper or an artist? There are some amazing artists in this industry, some of whom call AC Bailey home. I am constantly in awe of the beautiful work I see, and while I do strive to improve mine, I happily categorize myself as a scrapper.

Loving the May Goodies Kit!

This month I got to work with the amazaing May goodies kit. The rich colors are beautiful and there are so many possibilities. I've already made 3 layouts and a card kit and still have goodies left over. Here's a card I made using the kit.

Thanks for stopping by!

During this lovely Memorial Day Weekend, I've been thinking a little about my ancestors, both military and non-military, and how I somehow manage to immerse myself so deeply in the present that I often don't even think about scrapbooking the past... however, the May Goodies Kit inspired me to create this layout about the wedding of my father's parents in 1928.

I used the May Goodies Kit only, and found myself intrigued by the layout--not because I'm so brilliant, but because the colors and designs seemed to actually help depict the story in a way that my grandmother's voice never did. I can almost feel the essence--how serious they all were despite the happy occasion--and I love how the muted but brilliant colors make everything seem to real, even though it was over 80 years ago!

So never forget your heritage--especially in your scrapbooking! I feel kind of guilty about it, but this was the perfect inspiration to get me going!

See you next month!

Lime Rickey!!

I love Basic Grey and I am so excited with all the new lines they are coming out with.
I absolutely cannot wait to see the newest "Lemonade" (coming soon).

I had to be the first to get my hands on Porcelain as it was so "me" soft, muted, girly colors...BUT then, I really like the bold and bright colors of the new Lime Rickey collection. And, I wanted to play with that too- although the bright bold "circus-like" colors and patterns are not my style at all I wanted to have fun scrapping this summer and I think the papers in this collection ooze "fun." As expected, I ended up being a bit intimidated when my package arrived and as I feared, I developed a type of "scrapper's block" every time I went to use it. No matter how I laid out my pics and sorted these papers and embellishments it SCREAMED chaos to me as every sheet had bold prints and bright colors that popped off the pages and made my pics get lost in the process.

Imagine my surprise when I attended CKC this past weekend and one of crop/class layouts was made with Lime Rickey! As the instructor walked us through the first layout (left page here) I had a BALL and something she said clicked for me- She said, "whenever I use bold printed papers I imagine them SMALL, little bits and pieces are easier to work with than the entire LOUD sheet.

And,...we stretch our supplies this way! Thank You Shelby and the gals from Embellish It!

So, as soon as I returned home I sat back down and pulled out the supplies again and in one evening I am proud to report I created TWO of the cutest layouts! Both of these are simple to make, using only the most basic tools, pp, Bazzill, the sticker sheets from the line, popdots, my Signo pen (I love that thing) and some leftover Thickers. I got to cut, laugh and giggle and I DOODLED for extra fun, cause Lime Rickey is all about fun and that was PERFECT for these pages.

In the first layout, Mike, Erica and Hunter are wearing these silly glasses I got for CHEAP at the dollar store. I was handing them out to "Trick Or Treaters" and Hunter was so excited to wear them and have others wear them too! The second layout is of Hunter making a puzzle of the Solar System. He was so busy concentrating he said, "Grammy-you can't talk to me now, wait until after to get my picture!" HAHAHA:) I really like the way these turned out and you will too, get some Lime Rickey from the AC Bailey store today. It keeps selling out (wonder why?) and Erica keeps restocking, so watch for it!

Making Memories

This month I got to play with one of my favorite manufacturers, Making Memories. I have a strong affinity for this company, the very first thing I ever bought for scrapping was by this company and they have never let me down since! Not only do I love their designs and tools, but they have outstanding customer service ...one of the most important things about a company in my mind. That's what enticed me to AC Bailey and why I decided to become a consultant with them too! Here's a simple layout I made using my favorite collection, Noteworthy.

Going Places...

I always love working with products from American Crafts - this month I had the privilege to put some things together with the fun travel set of papers they released last summer! Unfortunately, it's no longer available in the store, BUT, if you happened to pick it up while it was there, here are some fun ideas for you! Of course, you can always make these layouts with any papers of your choice!!

For the graduate: I'd say high school or college. ;)
I loved putting a spin on the travel theme, while incorporating the famous Dr. Suess quote!

Coming full circle... don't let those little airplanes on the paper turn you off! I used it for a little border under my blue strip.

A twist on the "favorite things" layout:
I doodled my journaling instead of actually writing things out... for a fun little twist! I love doing a layout like this every once in a while, just to give a little snapshot of where I'm at! :)

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Daydream-ing

I am a huge October Afternoon so I was rather excited to play with their "Daydream" collection this month. It's an older collection but one I didn't yet have. The set includes beautiful florals and stripes, polka dots and other fun prints, as well as the die-cuts, journaling cards and rubber charms that we've come to love from October Afternoon.

For this simple 4 x 5 1/2 card (using a sketch posted on October Afternoon's blog) I simply cut a piece of Daydream paper slightly smaller than the card size, rounded two of the corners, inked and distressed the edges and then added another coordinating strip about 1/2 inch wide and added the lace trim. I then chose one of the die cut shapes, doodled around the edge, inked the edges, added a sentiment and a rubber charm and it was done. Nice and quick and easy.

This next project is a layout created from some pictures from our recent Disneyland trip. We had some down time at the hotel before heading over to the park and I caught my husband and oldest daughter doing a little daddy-daughter bonding listening to Disney Princess songs on the iPod.

For this simple page I laid out my pictures on the patterned paper, used the Fiskars scalloped border punch on a long striped piece and a shorter polka dot one and did some doodling to make the papers stand out better. I added some staples, a couple journal spots and my title and it was done! The letters are Chit Chat and Poolside Thickers, also available at the AC Bailey store. See the link on the right side of this page. The "Good Times" that I used to dot the "I" is a rubber charm from the Daydream collection.

Thanks for stopping by the AC Bailey blog today.

Happy Scrapping!
:) Becky

Layout of the Week for 5/9/09

If you noticed the new layout of the week for this week you would notice that it is by our very own Erica. She works so hard to keep this company going that she rarely gets time to scrapbook for herself. I thought it quite fitting that she be chosen this week to get our LOTW honors.

It's a bright and colorful and fun page. Beautiful work, Erica, and CONGRATS!! I think it's okay for her to get "Layout of the Week" once in a while, too, don't you?

Bo Bunny/Abbey Road

This is one of my all time favorite paper packs because it is so GREEN- my favorite color. The Abbey Rd. paper was perfect for these lush, green pic's of our garden. I framed the garden pic with the Bo Bunny Chunky Charms. I love the dimension it added to the layout. To complete the layout I added brads and flowers. This paper pack is perfect to cut a large shape and then cut a circle and flip it. You get the beauty of both sides of the paper. I do this all the time. The paper is so pretty I want to use both sides of it - and you can as I've shown in the layout above.

The flowers are so fun to make. When you are low on matching embellishment-make your own. These are very easy. All you do is cut four circles, one smaller than the previous. Start with about a 2" circle and go from that. After you have your circles cut, distress them with the edge of your scissors or use a distressing tool. The next step is to paint the edges of the circles with Ranger crackle paint. Let them dry for about 10 minutes. Stack them together and attach with a brad. Hope you are inspired to make some of these fun and pretty flowers. All of these products can be found in the e-store at AC Bailey. Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful Mother's Day. by: C. A bit of October in May

It's been an exciting few weeks over at ACBailey - we're about halfway through our Scrapping Stimulus, with lots of fun challenges up and several more to go, and today in honor of National Scrapbooking Day we had a blog hop.
Actually, we love to keep things fresh and new so stop in often. Although I got to work with October Afternoon this month, the fresh and vibrant colors reminded me more of Spring than October......and I had a great time doing this layout of Delaney when she was playing in the pool last summer. The cool blues along with the lime green and black really evoke a cool feeling and it was fun layering the papers. I used Powder Puff Ink to color some white glitter Thickers. I love the way you can ink Thickers to make them match your layout perfectly!! A layout would not be finished without some Primas.
Loving these cool colors, my next layout used a muted aqua Bazzill for the
background and again these papers were just perfect for some of last summer's photos of the kids in the pool. I used a half piece of Making Memories paper that was in with
my scraps and it worked of perfectly to
put my journaling on. Sincle circles are so much fun, I cut a circle and on top of it put a Maya Road Turn...believe it or not the word Summer is from a copany that went out of business a few years ago...can you say, "Stash"? I had a bunch of paper left over so I made a Maya Road mini album to give as a gift. It was really simple to do, especially using the Cheetah to adhere the paper. In between the pages, I used Hambly transparencies. I used my old standby Distress Crackle Paint to color the chipboard embellishments and tied assorted ribbons on the rings. Love that Maya Road Sheer Vinyl Printed Ribbon. Looking forward to the new October Afternoon papers and diecuts which should be in the store soon!
Until next time - Happy Scrapping and come on over and visit us on the forum!!

Welcome to the AC Bailey National Scrapbook Day Blog Hop!

Happy National Scrapbooking Day!

Is anyone else as excited as I am?! I love National Scrapbooking Day in general, and being involved in hosting something with AC Bailey is even better! The members of our Design Team have a fun and informative "hop" planned for you today, and not only are you going to be completely inspired, you're also going to have a chance to win different things!

Now I'm sure you're ready to get started, so here's how it's going to work:

* You're going to 'hop' from blog to blog and read the posts and tutorials from our fabulous Design Team Members.

* At each blog, you should leave comments to show that you visited the blog, learn techniques, get tips, bookmark things that are interesting, etc. Remember, each blog owner will choose one lucky winner from everyone who leaves a comment that day!

* Then you will pick 3 (THREE) or more of these tips or techniques and create a layout.

* You will upload your layout and post it to the ACB NSD folder in our gallery.

* One winner will be drawn to win the Grand Prize (pictured below)!

Rules for Participation:

1) If you are NOT already registered for the AC Bailey Forum and Gallery, you will have to register for each of them separately.
-- If you need to register for the Forum, click here
* Go all the way to the bottom of the page and you will see "Register." Click, follow the instructions and you're on your way!

3) All layouts MUST be submitted by 11:59 p.m. EST on Sunday, May 3, 2009. Winners will be announced Monday, May 4th, at Noon.

4) Once your layout is in the Gallery, you then need to visit the AC Bailey Community Forum thread entitled "Scrapbook Stimulus Challenge" and you will find the National Scrapbooking Day thread within it. Post your opinions (good or bad, we love constructive criticism!), thoughts about the hop, or anything else that you would like to share!

That's it! It's all about YOU--do as little or as much as you like, learn something, create something, win something... the possibilities are almost endless!

Just in case we encounter any technical difficulties, this is the order of the blog hop with direct links to the blogs, although each designer will have instructions on what to do next for you there!

Becky - ribbon flowers
Dee - using paint on your projects/layouts
Connie - layering with fiskar border punches
Jess - Create your own journaling tags using scraps
Emma - Featuring Dimensional Pearls, how to doodle with them, use them for bling or write with them.
Gail - Featuring American Crafts' THICKERS; how to use them as well as a challenge
Lisa - How to make your own unique embellishments using paper, flowers and buttons.
Leah - Making hand made flowers from her "brothers" layout in March.
Gin - Making your own buttons to match your layout using Glossy Accents, recycled chipboard/cardboard and more.

Elizabeth's post will be the last one and you will then be directed to Forum where you can talk about your experience! And don't forget to post your layouts--we can't wait to see what you come up with!

So have fun, be creative and enjoy National Scrapbooking Day!
